GVSU Claims An 83-50 Victory Over Goshen College

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State built on a 10 point halftime lead (39-29) with a 13-2 scoring run to open the second half en route to an 83-50 victory over Goshen College in the season-opener for the Lakers. GVSU will return to action Nov. 21 at home versus Grace Bible College.

The Maple Leafs led 16-11 with 14:08 remaining in the first half, but GVSU went on a 13-0 run over the next 5:20 to take a 24-16 lead. Kyle Carhart hit a 3-pointer and tallied a 3-point play, while Dan Redder hit a layup and a pair of free throws. Jason Jamerson scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Callistus Eziukwu hit a layup on the Lakers' opening possession and Jamerson scored seven straight points to give GVSU a 48-30 lead. GVSU built its largest lead of the game (33) on a Nate Bassett bucket in the closing seconds.

GVSU shot 59.0 percent from he floor and turned the ball over just eight times. The Lakers helf a 35-25 rebounding advantage. Jamerson led the way with 23 points, while Eziukwu notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dan Redder tallied 13 points and pulled down five rebounds in his first game as a Laker. Courtney James dished out eight assists and scored nine points.
