Junior forward Niki Reams led four Lakers in double figures with a career-high 32 points as Grand Valley State captured a 79-50 road win over Gannon University Saturday afternoon. GVSU, which improves to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in GLIAC action, has won nine straight games.
Grand Valley State led 36-27 at the half and went on a 14-0 run early in the second half to build a 54-31 lead. GVSU led by as many as 34 points in the closing minutes. The Lakers outrebounded Gannon 49-35 and forced the Knights into 22 turnovers. GVSU turned the ball over a season-low nine times and pulled down 20 offensive rebounds. The Lakers also outscored Gannon 54-34 in the paint and tallied 22 points off GU turnovers. Grand Valley converted 33-of-74 shots (45.0 percent) from the floor, while Gannon sank just 37.0 percent of their shots from the floor.
Niki Reams led Grand Valley State with 32 points and 11 rebounds. Reams connected on 14-of-20 shots from the floor. Sophomores Julia Braseth and Erika Ryskamp each contributed 12 points, while freshman Rachael Willett added 11 points.
Grand Valley State, ranked fourth in the latest NCAA DII Great Lakes Regional rankings, will be at Northwood next Saturday (Jan. 29) for a 6 p.m. contest.
