Grand Valley State Falls 84-67 At Michigan Tech

Houghton, Mich. - Grand Valley State ran into a hot-shooting Michigan Tech squad Saturday afternoon and dropped an 84-67 GLIAC road decision. The Lakers fall to 11-10 overall and 3-9 in GLIAC play, while 14th-ranked Michigan Tech improves to 16-3 and 10-2.

Grand Valley State built a 7-2 lead in early going of the first half, however, MTU went on a 21-6 scorig run to build a 23-13 lead. Michigan Tech led by as many as 15 points in the first half and led 38-26 at the half. The Huskies shot 63.6 percent from the floor (14-22) and 61.1 percent (7-12) from the three-point line in the opening half. GVSU pulled to within seven (50-43) eight minutes into the second half, but that would be as close as the Lakers would get in the final 20 minutes.

Mike Hall led five Lakers in double figures with 14 points. Eric Chess and Marcus Wallace each tallied 11 points, while Brian Arnold and Courtney James chipped in 10 points apiece. GVSU turned the ball over a season-low seven times, but MTU held a 38-28 rebounding advantage. The Huskies shot 63.3 percent from the floor (31-49) for the game and 56 percent (14-25) from the three-point line. Husky center Josh Buettner set an MTU record for shooting percentage by converting all 11 of his field goal atteampts en route to 31 points.

Grand Valley State will be at Lake Superior State Monday for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
