Grand Valley State Defeats Saginaw Valley State, 76-65

University Center, Mich. - Grand Valley State used a 7-0 run over a two minute span midway through the second half to build a 53-52 lead into a 60-52 margin and a 76-65 GLIAC road win at Saginaw Valley State. GVSU improves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC action.

Grand Valley State built on a 53-52 lead with back-to-back dunks and a Mike Hall three-pointer to give the Lakers an eight point cushion (60-52). Senior forward Marcus Wallace took a high feed from sophomore guard Brian Arnold for the first dunk, followed by a drop step dunk from freshman center Callistus Eziukwu. GVSU maintained at least a seven point margin for the rest of the game.

Grand Valley State shot 57.1 percent from the floor (24-42), including a sizzling 61.1 percent in the second half (11-18). GVSU also converted 19-of-24 second half free throws. The Lakers outscored Saginaw Valley State 14-4 in the paint, 11-0 on fast break points and 16-1 in bench scoring.

Callistus Eziukwu led the Lakers with his second double-double of the year (19 points/11 rebounds). Eziukwu added six blocked shots giving him 39 rejections in six games. Junior guard Courtney James tallied a season-high 13 points, while Marcus Wallace chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. Mike Hall and Jason Jamerson each added nine points. Jeff Grauzer came off the bench to contribute seven points.

Grand Valley State will return to action Saturday at Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
