#9 Grand Valley State dropped its first GLIAC contest Thursday night in a 3-1 (18-30, 30-27, 30-28, 30-25) decision against archrival Ferris State. The Lakers had their 16-match winning streak snapped, falling to 20-4 overall and 12-1 in the GLIAC.
GVSU won game one, 30-18, behind a .327 attack percentage, but the Bulldogs came fighting back and won the next three games, 30-27, 30-28, 30-25.
Junior Tina Tromblay tallied a team-high 19 kills and 17 digs, while junior Tracy Kirk posted 16 kills, a .375 attack percentage, five digs, and five assisted blocks. Sophomore Megan Helsen recorded 11 kills and 12 digs, while senior Stephanie Maciasz added 11 kills and two assisted blocks.
Senior Leah Kunz led the Lakers with 32 assists and junior Michele Ehrlich added 22. Redshirt freshman Alyson Riley recorded 20 digs.
Grand Valley State will return to action on Friday, Oct. 29 at Northwood at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Saginaw Valley at 4:00 p.m.
