Grand Valley State picked up its sixth GLIAC win in seven games as they defeated Northwood University, 73-50 Saturday night. The Lakers improve to 9-9 overall and 6-4 in the GLIAC.
GVSU dominated the first half, taking a commanding 40-15 lead at halftime. The Lakers shot 48.5% from the field, while holding Northwood to just 17.6% shooting. Northwood came back in the second half and outscored GVSU, 35-33, but it was not enough to overcome the Lakers outstanding first half.
Grand Valley forced 25 turnovers by the Timberwolves and outrebounded NU 40-22. GVSU tallied 19 offensive, while Northwood had just seven.
Leading the way for the Lakers was freshman forward Julia Braseth, who tallied a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds. Five of her boards came off the offensive glass. Freshman Megan Razavi recorded 12 points, while junior guard Janine Guastella added 11 points and five rebounds. Nine Lakers scored for Grand Valley.
GVSU will hit the road for a three-game trip through Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Lakers will open the set at Northern Michigan on Thursday (Feb. 5), followed by Saturday's (Feb. 7) game at Michigan Tech and Monday (Feb. 9) at Lake Superior State.
