Lakers Have Success at West Liberty Classic

Grand Valley State competed at the West Liberty Fall Tennis Classic, a three-day individual tournament. The "A" Flight consisted of the #1 and #2 singles players. Kyle Dehne played for GVSU at #1 singles and Ryan Sandusky competed at #2 singles. Sandusky made it to the final four, before falling, 6-1, 6-1.

Nirun Raju played at #3 singles and won the "B" Flight. He had no problem with the last match as he won, 6-1, 6-4. #4 singles Zach Siegrlst made it to the final four and then fell 6-2, 6-1.

GVSU's #5 singles player Justin Sauerbrey won the "C" Flight with a 6-2, 6-4 win in the finals. He and Zach Siegrlst teammed up at #2 doubles in "A" Doubles action and finished in the final four.

Grand Valley's #3 doubles team of Raju and Michael Bambini played in the "B" Doubles bracket and they won with a 8-5 victory in their last match.

The Lakers then played a match against West Liberty State College in which they fell, 5-4. GVSU won #1, 2, and 5 singles and #2 doubles, but it was not enough to pull out the win.

GVSU will travel to Big Rapids for the Ferris State Tournament on Sept. 19-20.
