Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State's pulled off their second upset of a first place team in the conference in the last week with an 84-82 victory over Findlay on Wednesday night. The Lakers won the non-conference matchup in Findlay after the Oilers had posted a 13-5 record in GLIAC action to earn the #1 seed in the South Division. GVSU used hot shooting to earn the win as they shot a season high 65% from the field, and 62.5% from behind the arc. Senior Jason Bauer led five Lakers in double-figures with 22 points and seven rebounds. GVSU enters the GLIAC tournament with an overall record of 14-13 and will play their first round game at Northern Michigan on Sunday, March 2, at 3:00 pm.

The Lakers hit 6 of 9 shots from three-point range in the first half to take a 42-36 lead into the break. Findlay started the second half with a small run to take their first lead since the mid-point of the first half with 13:25 in the game. However, the Lakers answered with a three by Courtney James that started a 21-8 run and GVSU never trailed the rest of the way. The Oilers did hit a three with six seconds left to cut the lead to two but James knocked down the final two free throws to make the last second UF dunk meaningless.

Bauer led GVSU in scoring for the 13th time this season, including 15 points in the first half. Four other Lakers hit double-digits in scoring. Courtney James tallied 17 points and five assists, while Duke Cleveland poured in 12. Jeff Grauzer and Melvin White both added 11 points, while Grauzer led all players with a career high six assists.

The Lakers upset on the road is the second in three games for GVSU as they defeated #1 ranked Michigan Tech last Thursday in Houghton. GVSU will enter the GLIAC tournament with the third seed in the North Division after finishing conference action with an 8-10 record.
