Lakers Defeat Bentley, 65-36, Advance to Second Round Action

Grand Valley State defeated Bentley College, 65-36, in the first round of the 2003 NCAA DII Football Playoffs. The Lakers will travel to Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Nov. 29 for second round action.

GVSU tallied a 37-22 halftime lead and scored 28 second half points to seal the win. Cullen Finnerty was 17-for-31 for 317 yards and three touchdowns via the air, while he and added 92 rushing yards and one TD.

Michael Tennessee had 79 yards on 13 carries and one touchdown and Ryan Hukill added 74 yards and one touchdown. Brandon Langston caught eight passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns, while Micah Staley tallied 120 yards on six catches and one touchdown.

Grand Valley's defense dominated as they tallied five interceptions and held Bentley to -14 rushing yards. DeJuane Boone recorded two interceptions, William Gray had one, Sean Roland picked off a pass, and Scott Mackey returned his fifth interception of the year for a Laker TD.
