Grand Valley State defeated Saginaw Valley State, 7-2, in their final match of the regular season. The Lakers finished the season with a 7-4 overall record and 6-4 in GLIAC play. GVSU will travel to Midland, Mich. for the GLIAC Championships on Oct. 25-26.
GVSU swept all six singles contests. Marie Cameron won her match, 6-1, 7-5 at #1 singles and both Nikki Fairchild and Alison Koopsen won 6-1, 6-1, at #2 and #3 singles respectively. Kim VanSprange picked up a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win at #4 singles, Laura Sukup won 4-6, 6-1, 7-6, at #5 singles, while Zanobia Syed rounded out the wins for the Lakers with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at #6 singles.
Cameron and Sukup fell at #1 doubles, 9-7, and VanSprange and Natalie Pallet also fell, 9-7, at #3 doubles. Fairchild and Koopsen teammed up for a 8-2 victory at #2 doubles.
