#5 Grand Valley State extended its winning streak to 12 with a 3-1 (30-21, 30-23, 22-30, 30-26) victory over #17 Northwood on Saturday (Sept. 28) in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Senior Carly Miller tallied 20 kills with a .436 attack percentage and seven digs to lead the Lakers, while Chara Fehsenfeld recorded career kill number 1,000 in game four. GVSU remains perfect in the GLIAC improving to 5-0 and 14-1 overall.
The Lakers started quickly as they hit .542 in game one with 14 kills to earn an easy 30-21 win. Grand Valley jumped out to a quick lead in game two as well and held on to win game two by seven. The Timberwolves did not go easily as they forced six GVSU errors in game four and a .158 attack percentage to earn the game four win. The fourth game went back and fourth until the Lakers rolled off four straight points to take control and the match. It was the 35th straight win for GVSU in regular season games at the Fieldhouse Arena.
Chara Fehsenfeld led the Lakers with 13 digs while playing libero the first three games and then recorded her 1,000th career kill in game four when she moved to outside hitter. Fehsenfeld is the ninth player in GVSU history to reach the milestone. Fehsenfeld also ranks third in career digs with 1,268 only 35 behind Jodi Sprick for second place.
Senior Traci Skrzypek recorded 10 kills and Sabrina Bird added eight kills and six blocks. Nicole Bayle tallied 46 assists and 10 digs.
The Lakers next match will be against Ashland on Thursday night at 7:00 pm in the GVSU Fieldhouse.
