Sept. 20, 2002

Box Score

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State earned a 4-0 road win at Lewis on Friday evening. Four different Lakers posted goals including three with their first goal of the season, and two of those were the first goal of their GVSU careers. The Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead and added a fourth goal only moments before lightning ended the game at the 85:11 mark. GVSU improves to 5-2 on the season while Lewis drops to 0-4.

The Lakers struck quickly as freshman Mirela Tutundzic scored her seventh goal of the season only 7:30 minutes into the game. It only took GVSU nine minutes to strike again as junior defensive back Kristin Leszczynski scored her first goal in 42 games at GVSU. Freshman Jenny Junga finished the first half with her first goal as a Laker as she put Grand Valley up 3-0 going into halftime.

The lead remained at three, until Michelle Versluis scored off a Elizabeth Aceto pass with seven minutes left in the game. It was also the first goal of the year for Versluis. The game ended prematurely however as lightning appeared and the game was halted.

Melissa Henson earned her second shutout of the season in goal and improves to 4-2 on the season.

Grand Valley will play in Grand Rapids at Aquinas College on Saturday, September 21, at 1:00 pm.
