Lakers Win GLIAC Championship Over Gannon

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State won the 2002 GLIAC Championship with a sweep of Gannon on Saturday in the GVSU Fieldhouse. The Lakers cruised to a 30-19, 30-20, 30-19 win and were never seriously challenged in any of the games. Nicole Bayle was honored with Tournament MVP honors, while Carly Miller was named to the All-Tournament team. The Lakers earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which will be start next weekend with site and schedule to be announced on Sunday. GVSU has won 13 straight matches and are 29-2 on the season.

Grand Valley hit .347 for the match and held Gannon to a .094 percentage. Bayle led GVSU with 35 assists, 9 kills, a .471 attack percentage, and five kills. Miller tallied 18 kills with a .395 hitting mark and 10 digs. Chara Fehsenfeld recorded 19 digs and seven kills.

Grand Valley has won a school record 34 straight games, as they have not dropped a set since October 12 in regular season action at Gannon. The Lakers are ranked #5 in the AVCA Top 25 and first in the Great Lakes Regional rankings.
