GVSU Sweeps Northwood In GLIAC Semifinal

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State swept Northwood 30-28, 30-23, 30-22 in GLIAC tournament semifinal action on Friday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse. It was the 12th straight win for the Lakers and the 10 straight three-game sweep as GVSU has won 31 straight games. Senior Chara Fehsenfeld tallied 8 kills and 18 digs to lead the Lakers. Grand Valley improves to 28-2 on the season and will play Gannon on Saturday at 5:00 pm for the GLIAC title.

Both teams came out on fire in game one. Grand Valley tallied 18 kills with a .341 attack percentage while Northwood recorded 17 kills on a .316 mark, but GVSU pulled out the two point win. The match turned in the second game after a GVSU point that gave the Lakers the lead 24-22 as Northwood's Amy Gruszynski, the GLIAC Player of the Year, broke her finger on the play to take her out of the match. The Lakers took advantage winning five straight points and won the game 30-23. GVSU then ran away with the final game to earn a berth in the championship game.

Elisa Joris tallied eight kills with a .636 attack percentage and four blocks for the Lakers and Carly Miller led GVSU with 12 kills.

#5 Grand Valley will attempt to win their second GLIAC Championship in three years against Gannon who enters the match with a 16-10 record.
