Seniors Lead Way In Win Over Gannon

Allendale, Mich. - GVSU seniors Carly Miller and Chara Fehsenfeld led the Lakers to a 3-1 (30-22, 30-21, 27-30, 30-28) victory at Gannon on Saturday in Erie, Penn. Miller led the Lakers with 21 kills, a .388 attack percentage, and 22 digs, while Fehsenfeld was not far behind with 18 kills, a .350 attack percentage, and 20 digs. The Lakers, who are ranked #3 in the AVCA Top 25, improved to 18-2 overall and 9-1 in conference action.

The Lakers recorded a season high 78 kills with a .310 attack percentage. It was the fifth time this season that Miller recorded 20 or more kills in a match. Miller upped her career kills total to 1,942 and is now only 46 away from becoming the all-time kill leader in Laker history. Fehsenfeld moved into second place on the GVSU career digs list earlier in the week and now has 1,338 digs in her four years at GVSU.

It wasn't just the two seniors with big days however. Junior Nicole Bayle posted a career high 63 assists to go with 7 blocks, six digs, and five kills. Junior Sabrina Bird tallied 16 kills, with seven digs, and six blocks, while sophomore Elisa Joris posted 10 kills.

GVSU will travel to Wayne State and Hillsdale this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 18-19).
