Matt Jennings joined the Grand Valley State women’s volleyball coaching staff prior to the start of the 2026 season. Jennings brings over 20 of coaching experience at both the collegiate and professional levels.
Most recently, Jennings was an assistant coach and the director of operations for the Grand Rapids Rise. In his lone season with the team, the Rise finished fifth in the Major League Volleyball standings.
Prior to that, he was the head coach at Michigan Tech for 13 seasons. One of the best coaches in program history, Jennings ranks first in both overall winning percentage (.587) and GLIAC winning percentage (.627), while ranking second with 223 victories. In his in Houghton, Jennings led the Huskies to two regular season conference titles and four trips to the NCAA Midwest Regional. He coached 46 all-conference honorees, with 13 earning major league awards. He also had six players reach All-American status and under his tutelage, Laura De Marchi was named the Midwest Region Player of the Year.
Before his time with the Huskies, Jennings spent four seasons as an assistant coach with Division I Pittsburgh. He was also an assistant coach DePaul and Eastern Kentucky. Jennings got his collegiate coaching career started as the head coach of NAIA St. Ambrose, where he coached for three seasons.
