Gretchen (Gariepy) Goodman was named the Athletics Health Care Administrator for Grand Valley State University in August of 2017. In her role, Goodman compliments the university healthcare team with
administrative oversight of health care delivery and implementation of student-athlete health and safety initiatives. She is also responsible for monitoring NCAA health and safety related legislation and inter-association
recommendations.

With a passion for student-athlete mental health Goodman developed the Lakers Listen platform and subsequent Anchor Team to build a culture of awareness that bridges the gap between stigma and access for the student-athletes she serves at GVSU.

A certified and licensed athletic trainer by trade, Goodman has years of experience working within the healthcare field including the direct delivery of athletic training services to collegiate athletes and clinical oversight of an orthopedic practice. Prior to returning to GVSU, Goodman was the Director of Clinical Operations at the former River Valley Orthopedics and clinical athletic trainer for team orthopedist Dr. Tim Henne. Goodman also worked as an assistant athletic trainer for GVSU (2008 – 2012) and Saint Leo University (2006 – 2008).

Goodman has been involved in state level leadership having served previously as the athletic training student
committee chair/co-chair, president-elect, and president of the Michigan Athletic Trainers’ Society (MATS). She continues to stay active by volunteering her time for the MATS organization through the Leadership Excellence and Development Series (LEADS), a program she created and launched in January 2022 to prepare and engage more athletic trainers for state level leadership. She is also a proud member of the Great Lakes Athletic
Trainers Association (GLATA), the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and Women Leaders in College Sports.

Goodman graduated from GVSU in 2004 with a B.S. in Physical Education/Athletic Training and earned her Master of Arts from Western Michigan University in 2006. She and her husband, Kurt, have one daughter, Greer.
