1996
Grand Valley State University constructed a 20,000 square foot Recreation Center at the cost of $6 million to support the needs of the growing student population. At that time the facility included a front desk entrance, 1/9 of a mile elevated track, cardio space, weight room, and courts 1, 2, and 3. This project was funded by student fees.

2002
The University spent $3 million for a 25,000 square foot addition to the Recreation Center. There were no student fees associated with this project. This was funded by an under-budget housing project. The addition included expanding the cardio space, another free weight room space on the lower level, and courts 4 and 5. With this addition, the Recreation Center grew to 45,000 square feet.

2016
The Recreation Center received $20 million for a 50,000 square foot addition driven by the growth of the University. This project was funded through the University Development Fund with no additional cost to the students. These funds allowed for a new front desk/lobby area, an equipment checkout room, an office suite, two new weight rooms, an instructional fitness studio, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a gender inclusive locker room, and courts 6, 7, and 8. Within this project, renovations to the original spaces included new paint, lighting, flooring in cardio and weight room areas, entry desk, office suite, additional cardio space, and functional fitness area. The Recreation Center expanded to 95,000 total square feet.
