The Meadows was built in 1994 as designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan. The course has won numerous awards for design and layout and has been named one of the top 25 public golf courses in Michigan by the Detroit News.

The course entrance is off West Campus Drive and extends to 48th Street to the west and Lake Michigan Drive to the north. The facility includes a practice facility, restaurant, pro shop, and offers private instruction. The practice facility, located to the south of West Campus Drive, contains a driving range, a putting green chipping bunkers, and three practice holes. The course is frequently used by GVSU students and staff. Since it is a public golf course, it is also a popular golf course among residents in the Allendale and Grand Rapids community.

The Meadows is home to both men's and women's golf teams. The Meadows has been host to men's and women's NCAA Division II National Championships, NCAA Regional Championships and Michigan High School State Finals.
