ALLENDALE – The No. 4 Grand Valley State women's soccer team kicks off their home schedule this weekend when they welcome a pair of ranked teams. The Lakers will face No. 3 Minnesota State in the home opener on Friday, September 12
th at 7:00 PM and No. 17 Central Missouri on Sunday, September 14
th at 12:00 PM.

GVSU went 2-0 on the road in the opening weekend of the 2025 season. The Lakers defeated No. 13 Ashland 1-0 in the season opener off a late goal by
Sarah Fromm in the 80
th minute. GVSU would close the weekend by defeating Cedarville 3-2. Fromm was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals and two game-winning goals. She netted the game-winning goal against Cedarville in the 81
st minute.
Sara Csernyik got the start in goal for GVSU in both games and made two saves. Freshmen
Cora Conley and
Ivy Wilhelm each dished out an assist for their first collegiate points.
The Lakers are 7-3-4 all-time against Minnesota State. The two teams last faced each other in the NCAA Quarterfinals last season in Mankato, Minnesota. The game would end in a 1-1 draw as Minnesota State would defeat GVSU 5-4 in penalty kicks to advance to the final four.
Minnesota State is 1-0-1 to begin the season. The Mavericks played to a scoreless draw against Central Oklahoma before defeating Central Missouri 1-0. Senior Anna Van Wyngarden scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick in the 76
th minute. Sophomore Lauren McAlpine got the start in goal in both games for the Mavericks stopping six shots.
GVSU is 10-1-2 all-time against Central Missouri. The two programs last met in the 2024 season where the Lakers defeated the Jennies 2-1 on the road in Warrensburg, Missouri. Central Missouri has started the 2025 season with a 0-1-1 record. The Jennies played to a scoreless draw to open the season against Augustana before falling 1-0 to Minnesota State. Goalkeeper Kristen Wright has made five saves starting in both games for the Jennies.
