BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State softball team fell in a doubleheader at Ferris State Tuesday (April 1) afternoon dropping game one 5-4 and game two 3-1. The Lakers fall to 15-17 on the season and 6-4 in the GLIAC.
Game One – L, 5-4
GVSU scored the first run of the game in the second inning.
Grace Usher launched a solo home run to center field for her second of the season. Ferris State would score four runs in the fifth inning to take a three-run lead. The Bulldogs took the lead off a two-run single to right field followed by a pair of RBI singles.
The Lakers answered in the sixth inning to cut the Ferris State lead to 4-2.
Elizabeth Wesoloski singled to right field to score
Faith Edwards who led the inning with a triple. Ferris State would answer right back in the bottom half of the inning with a run to retake a three-run lead. GVSU would score two runs in the seventh but would come up short and fall in game one 5-4.
Elizabeth Wesoloski batted 2-3 with an RBI.
Faith Edwards went 1-2 with a triple, one runs scored, and one RBI.
Grace Usher hit her second home run of the season, while
Madelynn Pope added a hit and run scored.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and suffered the loss after tossing all six innings allowing four earned runs with three strikeouts.
Game Two – L, 3-1
GVSU got off to a fast start scoring in the opening inning of game two.
Grace Usher hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score
Faith Edwards. Ferris State would tie the game at one in the fourth inning with an RBI single to right field. The Bulldogs would take a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice and would add an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to left field.
Grace Usher batted 1-2 with and RBI, while
Eliana Eiland notched a double.
Carsyn Segorski added a hit, while
Faith Edwards scored the Lakers only run.
Nevaeh Ingram got the start in the circle and suffered the loss after tossing all six innings allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts.
The Lakers will travel this weekend to face Wayne State and Saginaw Valley State in a pair of GLIAC doubleheaders. GVSU will face Wayne State in Detroit on Saturday (April 5) at 1:00 PM and Saginaw Valley State in University Center, Michigan on Sunday (April 6) at 12:00 PM.
