#6 Lakers Set to Close Regular Season at Home

ALLENDALE – The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's soccer team closes out the regular season this week at home against Roosevelt and Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers will host Roosevelt on Thursday, November 6th at 5:00 pm and Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, November 8th at 1:00 pm.

GVSU enters the final two games of the regular season on five-game winning streak. The Lakers defeated Davenport 1-0 and Purdue Northwest 2-1 last week. With the win over Purdue Northwest, GVSU claimed the GLIAC regular season championship for the 18th time in program history and first since the 2022 season. Senior Kacy Lauer was named the GLIAC offensive player of the week after scoring the game-winning goal against Davenport and opened the scoring against Purdue Northwest. It marks the second week in a row a Laker has earned offensive player of the week honors. 
 
Sophomore Sarah Fromm leads GVSU offensively with seven goals and 16 points which ranks second in the conference. Lauer has notched a career high six goals and 14 points in her senior campaign. Lauer has scored a goal in three straight games and recorded at least a point in four straight games. Junior Sonya Mehta and freshman Ivy Wilhelm have each scored five goals and dished out five assists for 15 points this season. Wilhelm is tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals. Alli French has recorded 13 points on five goals and three assists on the season. French picked up two assists in the win over Purdue Northwest and is tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals. Freshman goalkeeper Macie Hunter leads the GLIAC with eight shutouts, four goals against, and a 0.33 goals-against average.
 
Roosevelt enters the final two games of the regular season with a 5-9-1 overall record and 3-8-1 GLIAC mark. The Lakers are coming off a 2-0 road win at Michigan Tech to put them in seventh place in the GLIAC standings. Roosevelt has been outscored 31-25 by their opponents this season. Carisma Rosales leads Roosevelt offensively scoring six goals with four assists for 16 points on the season. Rosales has notched two game-winning goals and leads the Lakers with 33 shots. Daisy Garcia has recorded five goals and four assists for 14 points with one game-winning goal on the season. Daisy Hernandez-Loya has added five goals and three assists for 13 points on the year. Roxy Herrera has started the last seven games for Roosevelt in goal making 49 saves on 138 shots faced.
 
Saginaw Valley State is tied for second place in the GLIAC standings with an 8-3-1 conference mark and 10-4-2 overall record. The Cardinals are coming off a 3-0 win against Purdue Northwest and a 2-0 loss to Ferris State. SVSU leads the GLIAC offensively with 39 goals scored. Madi Bajis leads the GLIAC with 10 goals and 23 points on the season with two game-winning goals. Lauryn Fracassi is second with five goals and three assists for 13 points with one game-winning goal. Abby Ellis has added four goals and three assists for 11 points. Goalkeeper Lainey Garbarz has made 66 saves with three individual shutouts on the season.
