ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team begins postseason play in the GLIAC tournament when they host Roosevelt in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 11
th. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm at the GVSU Soccer Field.
GVSU finished the regular season with a 16-2 overall record and claimed the GLIAC regular season championship with a 12-2 conference mark. The Lakers enter the postseason on a seven-game winning streak including four shutouts during that span. In the regular season, GVSU outscored their opponents 44-9 and led the GLIAC with 10 shutouts. GVSU finished the regular season with two wins last weekend defeating Roosevelt 7-0 and Saginaw Valley State 2-1 at home.
Kendall Aikens was named the GLIAC offensive player of the week after scoring two goals and two assists in the final two games.
The Lakers have seven players that have scored double digit points this season.
Sarah Fromm leads the Lakers with nine goals and 21 points. Fromm leads the team with four game-winning goals and scored both goals last game in the 2-1 win over Saginaw Valley State.
Mackenzie Ford had a career high two goals and two assists in the win over Roosevelt. Ford on the season has put up a career high four goals and a team leading seven assists for 15 points this season.
Kacy Lauer has also put up a career best with six goals and four assists for 16 points. Lauer dished out a pair of assists in the win over Roosevelt which extended her point-streak to five games.
Sonya Mehta has recorded 16 points off five goals and six assists, while
Ivy Wilhelm has put up 15 points on five goals and five assists with three game-winning goals.
Alli French has scored five goals and four assists for 14 points this season, while Aikens has added 10 points with four goals and two assists.
Roosevelt finished the regular season in eighth place in the GLIAC standings with a 3-10-1 conference mark and 5-11-1 overall record. GVSU is 4-0 all-time against Roosevelt and swept the season series this year 2-0 on the road and 7-0 at home this past weekend. Roosevelt has been outscored by their opponents 41-25 this season. Roosevelt is led by Carisma Rosales who has scored six goals and four assists for 16 points this season. Daisy Garcia has notched 14 points on five goals and four assists with one game-winning goal. Daisy Hernandez-Loya has added 13 points off five goals and three assists.
