ALLENDALE – The No. 4 Grand Valley State women's soccer team contuse their GLIAC schedule when they travel to face rival Ferris State on Friday, October 10
th. First kick is set for 1:00 PM in Big Rapids, Michigan.
GVSU enters Friday's match against the Bulldogs with a six-game winning streak and five consecutive shutout wins. The Lakers are 8-1 overall and have outscored their opponents 19-4 on the season. GVSU ranks first in the GLIAC in scoring offense and goals-against average.
The Lakers are coming off a pair of GLIAC shutout wins last weekend to improve their conference mark to 5-0 for first place in the standings. GVSU defeated Parkside 1-0 at home and then shutout Purdue Northwest 2-0 on the road. The Lakers swept the GLIAC player of the week awards with
Sarah Fromm earning offensive honors, while
Macie Hunter was named the defensive player of the week. Fromm notched the game-winning goal in the 77
th minute in the 1-0 win against Parkside and dished out the game-winning assist against Purdue Northwest. Hunter made two saves over the weekend, posting her fifth consecutive shutout after the win at Purdue Northwest.
Fromm is tied for the conference lead with five goals and ranks second with 12 points.
Alli French ranks fifth in the conference with four goals and is tied with Fromm with three game-winning goals. French is second on the team with eight points and 23 shots with 11 on target.
Sophia Morgan leads the GLIAC with four assists, while
Cora Conley and
Ivy Wilhelm are tied for third with three assists. Hunter leads the GLIAC with a .000 save percentage and five individual shutouts.
Ferris State enters Friday's match with a 3-2-4 overall record and 3-1-1 GLIAC mark. The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 9-6 on the season and 114-63 in shots. Last weekend, Ferris State dropped a 2-1 decision at Northern Michigan before defeating Michigan Tech 2-1 on the road. Katherine Welch leads Ferris State with two goals and two assists for six points on the season. Grace Sampson has notched two goals and dished out one assist for three points. Korinne Ihrke has appeared and started in all nine games for the Bulldogs making 35 saves with three individual shutouts.
