#5 Lakers Host NMU and MTU This Weekend

ALLENDALE – The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team is back home for a pair of GLIAC games this weekend. The Lakers will host Northern Michigan for their Kick Out Cancer game on Friday, October 24th at 5:00 pm and Michigan Tech on Sunday, October 26th at 1:00 pm.

GVSU is coming off their final road trip of the regular season last weekend. The Lakers fell 1-0 at Parkside before defeating Roosevelt 2-0 last Sunday. GVSU is now 10-2 overall and in first place in the GLIAC standings with a 7-1 mark. The Lakers lead the GLIAC with allowing just six goals on the season while producing a league best seven shutouts. GVSU ranks second in the conference with 23 goals scored and first with 224 total shots.
 
Sophomore Sarah Fromm leads GVSU and ranks second in the GLIAC with six goals and 14 points. Fromm leads the conference with three game-winning goals. Freshman Ivy Wilhelm has notched 10 points on the season with three goals and four assists. Junior Alli French has scored four goals for eight points and is tied with Fromm with three game-winning goals. Junior Sonya Mehta scored her first career game-winning goal as a Laker last game at Roosevelt. Mehta has scored three goals on the season and dished out two assists for eight points. Freshman goalkeeper Macie Hunter posted her sixth shutout of the season in the win at Roosevelt. Hunter has made 11 saves on the season allowing just two goals in nine games played. 
 
Northern Michigan enters Allendale with a 3-6-4 overall record and 3-5-1 GLIAC mark. GVSU defeated Northern Michigan 4-0 on the road in the first matchup this season. The Wildcats have lost their last three games including two back-to-back road losses at Saginaw Valley State and Davenport. Hannah Kastamo leads Northern Michigan with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Addison Frantti has notched two goals and three assists for seven points. Goalkeeper Jillian Thompson has made seven starts in goal posting a 1-3-3 record with 24 saves and two shutouts.
 
Michigan Tech enters the weekend with a 2-10-1 overall record and 2-6-1 GLIAC mark. The Lakers defeated the Huskies 4-0 on the road in the first matchup between the two teams this season. Michigan Tech suffered road losses to Davenport and Saginaw Valley State last weekend. Goalkeeper Bri Barrows leads the GLIAC with 61 saves on the season and is second with 5.08 saves per game. Peyton Wetzel leads the Huskies with three goals and two assists for eight points.
