ALLENDALE – The No. 7 Grand Valley State women's soccer team opened up the 2024 season with a big home win against No. 9 Ashland 1-0 Thursday (Sept. 5) at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers start the season 1-0, while the Eagles fall to 0-1.
GVSU outshot the Eagles 11-7 and 5-1 on goal. The Lakers scored the only goal in the game in the 47
thminute.
Emma Chudik got a great ball in the middle of the box from
Sarah Fromm. Chudik took the shot with her left foot where the Eagle goalkeeper got a foot on it, but the ball went up in the air and bounced into the goal.
Alli French led the Lakers with two shots on goal.
Kacy Lauer notched two shots with one on goal, while
Ryann Fetty posted two shots. Chudik scored the game-winning goal off one shot.
Daan Louwerse and
Mackenzie Ford played in all 90 minutes for the Lakers back line of defense.
Isabel Imes got the start in goal and earned her first shutout of the year making one save.
