ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team advanced to the GLIAC semifinals and will take on Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Nov. 15). Kickoff is set for 11:00 AM on the campus of Northern Michigan in Marquette, Michigan.
GVSU finished in second place in the GLIAC standings and travels to Marquette, Michigan for the semifinal and championship rounds of the GLIAC tournament. Northern Michigan finished in first place and earned the right to host the final two rounds.
The Lakers defeated Parkside 1-0 in the GLIAC quarterfinals. Freshman
Kendall Aikens scored the game-winning goal which was her second goal of the season with the assists by
Alli French and
Sophia Morgan. GVSU improved to 12-1-6 on the season.
Saginaw Valley State defeated Purdue Northwest 1-0 in overtime in the GLIAC quarterfinals to advance to Friday's semifinals. The Cardinals are 9-5-5 on the season and finished in third place in the GLIAC standings with a 6-3-5 mark. Saginaw Valley State have won four of their last six games with two draws.
GVSU defeated Saginaw Valley State 5-0 in Allendale in the last meeting between the two programs.
Vesna Dennison scored her first two career goals and
Alli French scored the game-winning goal. The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the first meeting of the season at Saginaw Valley State.
