No. 2 Lakers Host PNW Friday; at Davenport Sunday

ALLENDALE – The No. 2 Grand Valley State women's soccer team resumes GLIAC play this weekend when they host Purdue Northwest on Friday (Oct. 3) at 3:00 PM before traveling to Davenport on Sunday (Oct. 5) at 2:00 PM.

GVSU was ranked number two in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll this week. The Lakers are 6-0-2 on the season and sit in first place in the GLIAC standings with a 3-0-1 mark. GVSU is coming off a scoreless draw at Saginaw Valley State and a 3-0 win against Parkside on senior day. The Lakers notched a season high 39 shots in the win against Parkside and saw six different players record a point. It was the second weekend GVSU did not allow a single goal, and the defense did not allow a shot on goal between the two games.
 
Emma Chudik scored her third goal of the season in the win over Parkside and leads the team with three goals and seven points. Taylor Reid dished out her team leading third assist. Kacy Lauer notched the game-winning goal for her first of the season and played all 90 minutes for the seventh consecutive game. Goalkeeper Cailynn Junk has posted a 5-0-2 record in goal making 19 saves with four shutouts on the season. 
 
Purdue Northwest is second place in the GLIAC with a 2-0-1 mark and 5-0-2 overall record. The Pride are coming off a 2-1 win against Michigan Tech and a scoreless draw against Northern Michigan. Purdue Northwest has outscored their opponents 12-4 this season, while out shooting them 84-46. 
 
The Pride are led by Amaris Gonzalez who ranks second in the GLIAC with four goals and eight assists. Yoselin Garcia and Addison Thomas are tied for the GLIAC lead with four assists on the year. Goalkeepers Meta Fischer and Poppy Jackson have split time in net for the Pride this season. Jackson has made five starts making 16 saves with a 4-0-1 record. Jackson has started three games with a 1-0-1 record including two individual shutouts. 
 
Davenport enters the weekend with a 2-3-3 overall record and 0-2-2 GLIAC mark. The Panthers are coming off two draws last weekend against Parkside and Ferris State. Davenport has outshot their opponents 99-84 on the season. Haley Diekevers and Ella Chatfield lead the Panthers with two goals each. Elizabeth Wolter has started all eight games in goal for the Panthers making 27 saves this season with three shutouts.
