PREVIEW: No. 13 Women’s Soccer Continue GLIAC Play in the U.P.

ALLENDALE – The No. 13 Grand Valley State women's soccer team travels to Michigan's Upper Peninsula this weekend for a pair of GLIAC contests. The Lakers will face No. 18 Northern Michigan on Friday (Sept. 29) in Marquette at 3:00 PM before traveling to Houghton, Michigan to take on Michigan Tech on Sunday (Oct. 1) at 12:00 PM.

Last weekend the Lakers traveled to Purdue Northwest and Parkside for their first GLIAC road trip. GVSU dominated Purdue Northwest 6-1 and then concluded the trip with a 1-0 win over Parkside. The Lakers are now 5-1-2 on the season and are 3-0-1 in the GLIAC. 
 
Junior midfielder Emma Chudik was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Chudik scored a hat trick in the win over Purdue Northwest and notched the game-winning goal against Parkside. She now leads the team and ranks second in the GLIAC with five goals and ten points this season. 
 
Northern Michigan enters the weekend as the No. 18 ranked team in the country. The Wildcats are 6-1-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the GLIAC. Last weekend, Northern Michigan defeated Ferris State 2-1 before falling to Saginaw Valley State 1-0 at home. The Wildcats lead the GLIAC with 18 goals on the season averaging 2.25 goals per game. 
 
Sophomore forward Molly Pistorious leads the GLIAC with six goals 32 shots, and 13 points on the season. Sophomore forward Hannah Kastamo has notched four goals and dished out two assists for 10 points on the season. Pistorious and Kastamo both have scored two game-winning goals on the year. Senior forward Brenna Musser leads the GLIAC with four assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Jillian Thompson has started all eight games in net for the Wildcats this season posting 15 saves.
 
Michigan Tech enters this weekend with a 4-1-3 record and sit tied with the Lakers atop the GLIAC standings with a 3-0-1 mark. The Huskies taveled to Saginaw Valley State and played to a scoreless draw before defeating Ferris State 2-1. Michigan Tech will host Davenport on Friday before hosting the Lakers on Sunday. 
 
Junior midfielder Seulgi Lee leads the Huskies with four goals and eight points on the season. Lee has notched two game-winning goals and 18 shots with 10 on goal. Senior midfielder Cassie Bonifas has scored three goals and dished out one assist for seven points with one game-winning goal this season. Senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde has started in all eight games in goal for the Huskies this season posting 0.54 goals against average with 23 saves.
