ALLENDALE – The No. 8 Grand Valley State women's soccer team is set to host Maryville Saturday (Sept. 2) at the GVSU Soccer Field. First kick is set for 1:00 PM. 
 
This will be the third meeting between the two teams with the Lakers winning both of the previous two matchups last season. The Lakers defeated the Saints 1-0 in the second game of the season at Maryville and later won 1-0 again in the NCAA Midwest Regional Semifinals in Allendale. 
 
The Lakers dropped their season opener 1-0 against Ashland on Thursday (Aug. 31). The Eagles scored the lone goal of the game in the ninth minute off an own goal. GVSU outshot Ashland 11-6, 6-1 shots on goals and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Maryville lost their season opener on the road at Ferris State 2-0 Thursday. 
 
Maryville is coming off a 12-3-6 season last year. The Saints won the GLVC Tournament Championship and won their first NCAA Tournament game in program history. Maryville returns United Soccer Coaches third team All-American Lexi Gentry. Gentry led the Saints in scoring last season with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Maryville also returns first team all-conference honoree Ashlyne Hunt who was tied with Gentry with seven goals last year. All-Conference defenders Lotte Brands and Ulrika Bredin return who helped the Saints earn 12 shutouts last season.
