INDIANAPOLIS – The two seeded Grand Valley State softball team defeated the one seed Indianapolis 3-1 in game one of the Midwest Super Regionals Thursday (May 18) afternoon at Baumgartner Field in Indianapolis. The Lakers improve to 44-6 on the season and are one win away from punching their ticket to the World Series.
The Lakers struck first in the top of the first inning to go up 1-0.
Kaitlin Lynch walked, and
Lydia Goble doubled to right center to put runner on second and third with one out. Next batter,
Morgan Wagner grounded out to second base that allowed Lynch to score for the first run of the game.
Indianapolis would tie the game at one in the fourth inning. The Greyhounds drew a walk and advanced to second on a groundout. Indianapolis hit a single up the middle to score the runner from second, but the Lakers would get out of the inning throwing the hitter out who was trying to advance to second on the throw home.
The Lakers regained the lead in the sixth inning to go up 3-1. Lynch got the inning started with a single up the middle and advanced to second after Goble reached on a Greyhound error. Wagner walked to load the bases and
Hannah Hollister delivered with a two out two-RBI single to left field to score Lynch and Wagner. The Lakers would shut down the Greyhounds in the final two innings to secure the win and go up 1-0 in the best of three series.
Hannah Beatus was dominant in the circle today for the Lakers tossing seven innings allowing just one hit on two hits with five strikeouts. Beatus moves to 26-1 on the season.
Hannah Hollister batted 1-3 with two runs batted in.
Kaitlin Lynch hit 1-2 with two runs scored.
Lydia Goble went 1-3 at the plate with a double and two runs scored, while
Joanna Cirrincione added a hit.
