TIFFIN, Ohio—The Grand Valley State softball team split a pair of games against Tiffin on Monday.

Ashley Platek was excellent again in the circle during the first game and GVSU's comeback attempt fell short in the seventh inning of game two.

GAME 1 – GVSU 5, Tiffin 0

Ashley Platek threw a one-hit shutout, allowing her only hit of the game in the third inning. Platek tossed five strikeouts and issued just one walk.Â

The Laker offense left the bases loaded in the first and third inning but was able to strike first in the fifth inning.

Morgan Wagner stepped up to the plate with two runners on and hit an RBI single up the middle to clean the bases and score
Lydia Goble and
Kaitlin Lynch. GVSU had a, 2-0, lead at that point.

The Lakers would strike again in the top of the sixth inning.
Lydia Goble stepped up with the bases loaded and hit a long fly ball into foul territory in right field. The ball was caught, but
MaryJane Goodman scored on the sacrifice fly and
Hannah Hollister scored on an error by the right fielder.

Liberti Fair would cap off the game for the Lakers with a double off the left-center field wall in the top of the seventh inning.
Joanna Cirrincione scored to make it, 5-0, in GVSU's favor, which would be the final score.

GAME 2 – GVSU 1, Tiffin 2

The Lakers trailed, 2-0, most of the game against Tiffin and put together a comeback attempt in the seventh inning that fell short.

MaryJane Goodman scored on an error by the Dragons' pitcher in the seventh inning.Â

GVSU would load the bases with two outs.
Lydia Goble stepped into the batter's box and grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.

Tiffin did its damage in the fifth inning. Madie Legg hit a solo home run to lead off the home half of the fifth inning. The Dragons would strike again with two runners on. A single followed by an error from
Hannah Hollister would score Tiffin's second run.

Nevaeh Ingran started in the circle for the Lakers, tossing five innings. She gave up six hits and one earned run. Ingram also struck out four batters.
Christine Duch came into the game in relief for the final inning. She struck out two and walked one batter.
