ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State Lakers continue their streak of breaking school records this weekend at the Bill Clinger Classic, as
Lindsey Strutz sets a new record in the women's pentathlon. Strutz claimed first place within each event to record an overall score of 3615, placing her on the National list at 12
th. Strutz held the previous school record in the women's pentathlon of 3361, recorded last indoor season.
The women's throw team led the Lakers in the field with
Emma Richards and
Erika Beistle placing first and second in the women's shot put invite. Richards recorded a distance of 15.41m, moving her up to second on the National leaders list and Beistle a distance of 14.30m.
Judith Essemiah and
Alaina Omonode took over in the women's weight throw invite claiming another first and second place finish for the Lakers, Essemiah threw a distance of 19.76 while Omonode recorded a 18.65m. Both Lakers currently sit on the National list for the women's weight throw, Essemiah in first and Omonode now in 11
th.
On the men's side,
Jacob Urban,
Shane Byrne and
Bryce Reynolds took over the Top 5 in the men's weight throw invite, claiming first, second and third. Urban recorded a distance of 19.57m, Byrne threw a 18.31m and Reynolds put out a distance of 18.16m. In the men's shot put invite,
Nathan Spitzley recorded a first-place finish with a distance of 16.07m.
Sophomore,
Caleb Taylor placed first for the Lakers in the men's long jump with a personal-best jump of 6.96m, followed by
Chanse Setzke in second with a distance of 6.84m.
On the track, the women's distance team dominated the 3000m invite earning four of the Top 5 spots.
Kayce Rypma brought home first for the Lakers with a new personal-best time of 9:51.85, finishing well within the NCAA Division II mark of 9:56.27.
Grace Pagone,
Sarah May and
Madison Ebright finished one after another claiming third, fourth and fifth. Pagone crossed the line in a time of 9:59.4, May with a time of 10:00.28 and Ebright finishing it for the Lakers with a personal-best time of 10:03.98.
The Lakers will next host the GVSU Snowdown Showdown on Friday, February 3
rd starting at 3 p.m.
