Late goal lifts Mavericks over Lakers

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State women's soccer lost a 1-0 decision against No. 19 Minnesota State Sunday afternoon (Sept. 4) at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers fall to 2-1-1 on the season, while Minnesota State improves to 2-1-0.

It was a tough and physical match as the shots were even at 16 apiece. Minnesota State put eight shots on goal to the Lakers five. The Mavericks scored a late go-ahead goal in the 85' minute that would end up being the game winner.

Kendall Robertson got the start in net for the Lakers and made a career high seven saves. The sophomore made huge saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless. The Lakers got a lot of good looks throughout the game but were unable to find the back of the net.

Senior Kennedy Bearden led the Lakers with four shots, including one on goal, while sophomore Nina Ferraro had three shots with one on goal. Bearden led all field players with 79 minutes played, while Ferraro played 75 minutes and freshman defender Kacy Lauer played 73 minutes.
