No. 6 GVSU Set to Host Davenport in Crosstown Showdown Friday Night

Lakers enter the match on a five-game winning streak

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team hosts the Davenport Panthers Friday (Sept. 30) night under the lights at 7:00 PM in the crosstown showdown. The Lakers enter the match with a five-game winning streak and are in first place in the GLIAC standings.

The Lakers are coming off a 2-0 weekend, picking up two big GLIAC wins to move into first place in the standings. The Lakers defeated No. 23 Northern Michigan last Friday 2-1 on a late goal in the 88' minute by Kennedy Bearden. On Sunday, the Lakers shutout Michigan Tech 1-0, improving their record to 7-1-2, 5-0-1 in the GLIAC. On the season, the Lakers have outscored their opponents 22-7 and have outshot their opponents 183-82. 
 
Taylor Reid was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal in each game. Reid scored the game-winning goal in the 1-0 win against Michigan Tech and has now scored four goals in the last three games. The junior now leads the team and ranks tied for second in the GLIAC with six goals.
 
Kennedy Bearden scored the game-winning goal and notched an assist against Northern Michigan. Bearden now leads the GLIAC with six assists and 36 shots, and ranks tied for second in the GLIAC with 16 points. Goalkeeper Kendall Robertson leads the league in save percentage (.816) and goals-against average (0.74) and is third with 31 saves. Ryann Fetty has notched two goal and three assists for seven points for the Lakers offense. 
 
Davenport enters Friday's contest 3-3-4 overall record, 2-1-3 in the GLIAC. The Lakers are a perfect 7-0 all-time against the Panthers. Davenport is coming off a pair of draws last weekend and have only allowed 10 goals this season. The Panthers played to a scoreless draw against Michigan Tech, before tying Northern Michigan 1-1. Senior Natalia Casiello scored for the Panthers in the 1-1 draw. On the season, Citali Luna and Aida Holihan lead Davenport for two goals each. Holihan has notched one assist on the season to lead the Panthers with five points. Junior goalkeeper Gabriana Bennecke has started all 10 games for the Panthers in goal making 35 saves.
