No. 3 GVSU picks up 3-2 road win against SVSU

Improve to 3-1-2, 1-0-1 in GLIAC

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The No. 3 Grand Valley State women's soccer team picked up a 3-2 win against Saginaw Valley State Sunday (Sept. 11) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 3-1-2 on the season, and 1-0-1 in GLIAC play. The Lakers will return home to Allendale for a five game home stand beginning next week Friday (Sept. 16) against Parkside.
 
The Lakers brought pressure early, having a 6-1 advantage in shots through the first 14 minutes of the game. The Lakers continued to dominate possession and would find the back of the net in the 35' minute with Taylor Reid scoring her first goal of the season with the assist coming from freshman Mackenzie Ford for her first collegiate point. Saginaw Valley State responded in the 40' minute to tie the game at one. The game would remain tied after the first 45 minutes with the Lakers holding a 12-9 shot advantage. 
 
The Lakers came out the second half strong, scoring in the 48' minute with Taylor Reid scoring her second goal of the game off the assist from Kennedy Bearden. In the 64' minute, the Lakers added to the lead this time with a goal by Bearden with the assist from Reid. That goal was Bearden's second of the season to make it 3-1. 
 
Saginaw Valley scored a late goal in the 75' minute to make it a 3-2 game, but the Lakers would be able to hang on for the win. The Lakers led 17-13 in shots, 9-6 on goal and held a 5-4 advantage in corners. 
 
Taylor Reid led the Laker offense with two goals and an assist on a team leading six shots, three on goal. Kennedy Bearden added a goal and assist with three shots all on goal. Ryann Fetty and Kacy Lauer each added two shots. Kendall Robertson started in goal for the Lakers and made four saves. 
 
The Lakers will be back home next weekend as they host Parkside on Friday (Sept. 16) under the lights at 7:00 PM. On Sunday, the Lakers host Purdue Northwest at 1:00 PM. Follow @GVSUSoccer on Twitter for live in-game updates and visit gvsulakers.com for links to live stats and video.
