ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's track and field team is in first-place at the end of day two of the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a score of 35 points. The Laker men are in second with 23 points.
Freshman
Erika Beistle placed second in the women's discus throw in her first ever national championship with a distance of 49.40m.
Emma Richards placed fifth scoring four points with a distance of 48.63m.
Hannah Becker and
Kayce Rypma scored nine points for the Laker women in the 3000m Steeplechase finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Becker crossed the finish line with a time of 10:19.07, followed by Rypma with a time of 10:23.72.
Freshman
Brandon Miller broke the school-record in the men's 200m finishing first in his prelim heat with a time of 20.44. Miller holds the indoor and outdoor school-record in the men's 200m. The high jumping duo of
Eli Kosiba and
Jonathan Rankins-James placed third and fourth with a height of 2.16m.
Caleb Futter finished sixth in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:51.63.
Day Three of the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships begins at 11:15 a.m. for the Lakers with
Emma Richards and
Mackenzie Bohrer in the women's Shot Put. Running Events will begin at 2:00 p.m.
