WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The No. 7 Grand Valley State softball team opens their spring break trip with a 3-1 win over the Winona State Warriors Sunday (March 6) at The Spring Games. The Lakers had their first scheduled game of the day against Lewis canceled due to an umpire shortage. GVSU improves to 6-0 on the season and have taken two from Winona State early in the campaign.
Lydia Goble's two-run home run in the third was all the offense the Lakers would need; it's the first long ball of the season for Goble. After Winona got a run back in the fifth, the Lakers got an insurance tally in the seventh on a double by
Megan Koenigshof that allowed
Taylor Rieger to score.
Hannah Beatus (W, 3-0) hurled her third complete game this season, allowing one run on four hits and a walk while striking out four. Beatus has now thrown 19 innings in 2022, allowing just one run.
The Lakers are scheduled to play two games tomorrow (Monday); Missouri-St. Louis at 9:00 AM and Southwest Minnesota State at 11:15. Visit gvsulakers.com and follow @GVSUSoftball on social media for live coverage links and updates.
