Lakers Qualify for Nationals in Season Opener

OXFORD, Ohio - The Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field team opened their 2022 outdoor season at the Blizzard Buster on Friday, March 18 with five provisional marks.  Jacob Urban and Bryce Reynolds reached the Lakers first provisional marks of the outdoor season and potentially leading them to the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships.  Urban won the men's hammer throw reaching a provisional distance of 58.64m, Reynolds placed second 57.47m.

Throws 
Bobby Maxwell won the men's javelin with a provisional distance of 59.85m on his third attempt. Nathan Spitzley finished second in men's discus with a provisional mark of 52.28. Elizabeth Pyles placed first in the women's discus throwing a provisional distance of 47.43m.  Mackenzie Bohrer placed third in shot put with a distance of 13.72m. Alaina Omonode placed fourth in hammer throw with a distance of 50.23m. 

Jumps
Mac Mitchell won the men's triple jump jumping a distance of 13.69m. Sydney Cangilla placed third in high jump clearing a height of 1.60m. Caleb Taylor and Cameron Graziosi placed second (1.90m) and third (1.85m) in the high jump, respectively. 

Sprints/Hurdles 
Jalen Kyles won the men's 200m dash with a time of 22.13. Brendon Edoff placed second in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 56.72. On the women's team, Corrina Courser placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.54. 

The Lakers will sets sail in multiple directions next week as different squads will be competing at the Texas Relays (March 23-26), Raleigh Relays (March 24-26), Texas State Invitational (March 24-26), and the Margaret Simmons Invite (March 25-26).
