No. 5 GVSU Downs Ferris State 3-0 in GLIAC Semifinals

Lakers advance to GLIAC Championship game on Sunday

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 5 Grand Valley State women's soccer team advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Championship after defeating Ferris State 3-0 in the semifinals Friday (Nov. 4) night. The Lakers improved to 14-2-4 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 10-5-5 on the year.

The Lakers got off to a blazing start, scoring in the second minute. Kennedy Bearden got the Lakers on the board when Kacy Lauer placed a ball that went off the cross bar that went right to Bearden in the middle of the box. That goal was Bearden's 13th goal of the season. The Bulldogs created scoring chances, but Kendall Robertson kept them of the scoreboard with a pair of saves in the 5' and 6' minute.

Kennedy Metzger and Bearden fired a pair of shots on goal that were both turned away by the Bulldog keeper in the 17' minute. Ten minutes later, Taylor Reid would find the back of the net to make it 2-0. Reid netted her 12th goal of the season off a beautiful lead pass from Kacy Lauer where she was able to track it down and fire it into the goal.  The Lakers would go into the break with a 2-0 lead with the shots on goal even at four apiece.

In the second half, Ferris State applied pressure to try and cut the Laker lead in half, but the Lakers were able to keep them off the scoreboard. Taylor Reid was able to find the back of the net again in the 78' minute for her second goal of the night and 13th of the season to put the game away for the Lakers.  Kacy Lauer once again assisted on goal placing a great cross for Reid to bang it home in the middle of the box.

The Laker offense was led by Reid with two goals and Bearden with the game-winning goal in the second minute, while Lauer assisted on all three goals. Kendall Robertson got the start in net and made a career high eight saves. Robertson posted her seventh lone shutout of the season. Reid led the Lakers with four shot attempts and Bearden placed three shots on goal. Mackenzie Jones led all Laker field players with 85 minutes played, while Cate Brown saw 81 minutes of action.
