ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's soccer team begins postseason play tomorrow (Nov. 1) in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals at 6:00 PM at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers earned the one seed in the GLIAC Tournament and will host the eight seed Purdue Northwest.
GVSU finished the regular season with a 12-2-4 overall record, and 10-1-3 GLIAC mark, clinching their 17
thconsecutive fall season GLIAC Regular Season Championship. The Lakers closed out the regular season with a 5-1 win on the road at Davenport last Friday. Freshman
Kacy Lauer scored her first collegiate goal 38 seconds into the game, and then scored again 39 seconds later to make it 2-0 just 1:20 into the game. Lauer finished with two goals on a season high eight shots, two on goal.
Taylor Reid notched two goals for 10 goals on the season, while
Kennedy Bearden scored her 10
th goal of the season in the win. The Lakers outshot the Panthers 17-4, 9-1 on goal and held Davenport to one corner kick.
As a team, the Lakers outscored their opponents in the regular season 41-14, while outshooting their opponents 299-143. Bearden and Reid lead the Laker attack with 10 goals each. Bearden has dished out seven assists and ranks second in the GLIAC with 27 points, while Reid ranks third with 22 points.
Kennedy Metzger has posted three goals and three assists for nine points this season for the Laker attack, while
Mackenzie Jones has added three goals and two assists for eight points. Goalkeeper
Kendall Robertson started all 18 games in the regular season for the Lakers posting 0.71 goals-against average and a .782 save percentage. The sophomore has notched six shutouts and two combined shutouts on the season.
This will be the third meeting this season between the Lakers and Purdue Northwest, with the Lakers winning both matchups in the regular season. This will be the eighth meeting all-time between the two programs that's seen the Lakers winning all seven matchups against the Pride.
Purdue Northwest enter the GLIAC Quarterfinal matchup with an 0-17-1 record, 0-14 in the GLIAC. The Pride have been outscored 50-4 on the season and have been outshot 355-57. Kaci Pampreen leads the Pride with three goals on the season, while Lauryn Tillmon has notched a goal. Yoselin Garcia and Brinley Hefty have each dished out an assist. Goalkeepers Asley Lovins and Bridget Grady have split time between the pipes this season for the Pride. Lovins has appeared in 12 games making 11 starts and has notched 71 saves, while Grady has appeared in nine games making seven starts and stopping 56 shots.
