PREVIEW: No. 6 GVSU Closes Regular Season at Davenport

Lakers have clinched their 17th GLIAC Regular Season Championship

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's soccer team travels to Davenport for the crosstown showdown in the final game of the regular season. First kick is slated for 7:00 pm at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Michigan. 
 
The Lakers clinched the outright GLIAC Regular Season Championship for the 17th consecutive fall season last weekend after defeating Purdue Northwest 2-0. The Lakers dominated the entire game holding Purdue Northwest to just one-shot attempt. Brooke Russell scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick and Alexa Morello scored her first goal in the second half.
 
The Lakers enter the final game of the regular season with an 11-2-4 overall record, 9-1-3 in the GLIAC. This season the Lakers have outscored their opponents 36-13 and lead 282-139 in shot attempts. The Laker offense has produced 114 corner kicks, ranking 13th in the country in corner kicks per game. As a team, the Lakers rank second in the GLIAC in scoring offense and assists per game. Earlier this season, the Lakers defeated the Panthers 5-1 in Allendale. 
 
Kennedy Bearden leads the Laker attack, ranking second in the GLIAC with nine goals and f25 points this season. Bearden is tied for first with seven assists. Taylor Reid has notched eight goals and dished out two assists for 18 points in her junior campaign. Defender Cate Brown has played a career high 1,294 minutes this season with seven complete games. Goalkeeper Kendall Robertson has started all 17 games for the Lakers. Robertson has made 43 saves on the year with six individual shutouts and two combined shutouts. The sophomore is second in the GLIAC with a 0.68 goals-against average and fourth with a .796 save percentage.
 
Davenport comes into the final game of the regular season with a 4-8-5 overall record, 3-6-4 in the GLIAC. The Panthers have clinched sixth place as they can't fall or rise in the standings. Davenport is coming off a 3-0 win at Purdue Northwest before playing Parkside to a 1-1 draw. As a team, the Panthers have scored 17 goals and dished out seven assists. 
 
Haley Diekevers leads the Panther attack with four goals and one assist for nine points on the season. Aida Holihan has notched two goals and two assists for six points in her junior campaign, while Citlali Luna has added three goals on 28 shots. Goalkeeper Gabriana Bennecke has started all 17 games for the Panthers making 78 saves which leads the GLIAC. Bennecke has posted a 1.41 goals-against average and .765 save percentage.
