No. 13 softball downs Trevecca Nazarene in NCAA Regionals Thursday

GVSU advances to Friday's winners' bracket game at 11 AM

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The nationally-ranked No. 13 and top seed in the Midwest Regional bracket Grand Valley State Laker softball team earned a second-round win, 4-0, over the Trevecca Nazerene Trojans Thursday (May 20). The Lakers improve to 42-7 overall and will play in the winner's bracket contest tomorrow (May 21) at 11 AM for a chance to go to the Midwest Region Championship game.

The Lakers got on the board early when Lydia Goble laced a double into the gap in left-center in the home first to chase home Taylor Rieger from first and open the scoring. Goble would smash a liner back into centerfield in the third to drive home another run then she came around one batter later when Nikoma Holmen clubbed her tenth home run of the season over the left field fence to give the Lakers a 4-0 lead.

Hannah Beatus (W, 22-2) hurled her ninth shutout of the season, striking out 10 while scattering five hits and a walk. Beatus avenges one of her two losses of the season with the post-season win over the Trojans as she collects her 19th straight victory. The Lakers dropped two contests with the Trojans at a neutral site tournament early in the season.

The Lakers await the winner of two-seed Indianapolis and six-seed Ohio Dominican in the winners' bracket matchup Friday (May 21) at 11 AM at the GVSU Softball Field. GVSULakers.com and @GVSUSoftball on social media will have updates as they develop.
