ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 14 Grand Valley State Lakers split a doubleheader with the Northwood Timberwolves Saturday (April 17) at the GVSU Softball Field. The Lakers took game one, 5-0, then fell 6-2 in game two. GVSU is now 26-6 overall and 17-3 in GLIAC play.
The Lakers erupted for a four-run first inning to take command of game one. After
Lydia Goble singled home a run,
Nikoma Holmen launched her seventh home run of the year into the shrubs behind the centerfield fence.
Bailey Thatcher would single home a run later in the inning to cap off the frame. GVSU would score another tally in the sixth inning on a
Brooke Henning RBI single.
Hannah Beatus (W, 12-2) carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before a pair of bloop singles in the frame. She would strand the runners and those two hits would be the only ones she allowed in a complete-game shutout. She struck out 10 while walking four.
A
Lydia Goble two-run double in the fifth was all the Lakers could muster in game two after the Timberwolves scored the first six runs of the game.
Genesis Eggart suffered her first loss of her career in the process.
The Lakers are back in action Wednesday (April 21) when they travel to Saginaw Valley for a doubleheader. GVSULakers.com and @GVSUSoftball will have links to live coverage and updates.
