GVSU Women Claim 2021 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championship

Lakers score a record 1,200 points and win 18 events

Final Results

Grand Valley State captured the 2021 GLIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship in record-setting fashion at the Holland Aquatic Center. The Lakers scored 1,200 points, 613 more than second-place Northern Michigan (587). Wayne State was third with 579 points. GVSU's 1,200 points is the all-time GLIAC record for points and the 613-point margin of victory is a GLIAC record. GVSU won a GLIAC record 14 individual events and 18 events overall. In addition, GVSU swept the conference honors in 2021.

1650 Freestyle – Neta Shiff captured her second individual GLIAC crown 2021 when she touched first in 16:53.39, followed by Sarah Puscas in second (17:01.10). Bianca Licari touched fifth (17:38.70), Gabriella Gnewuch sixth (17:40.85) and Becca Galovich eighth (17:50.49).

100 Freestyle – Rebecca Farber placed third with a time of 51.94, followed by Tina Winter in fifth (52.57), Claire Meeuwsen in seventh (53.27), Kelly Peasley in eighth (53.28) and Emma Bliss in 10th (52.34).

200 Backstroke – Melina De Cort captured her second GLIAC individual crown when she hit the wall first in a time of 2:00.42. Freyja Garbaccio finished eighth in a time of 2:10.29. 

200 Breaststroke – Samantha Laurich capture her GLIAC title in 2021 and fifth in her career when she hit the wall first in the 200 Breast (2:16.15). Delaney Wihebrink finished second (2:17.87), Alysa Wager fifth (2:24.50) and Dayna Borregard seventh (2:25.90).

3-Meter Diving – Gracyn Segard swept the diving events with her victory on the 3-meter board with a score of 488.05. Nicole Taormina was fourth (417.40), Allyson Schafer fifth (410.40), Nicole Carlson seventh (404.90), Jess McEachern ninth (378.35) and Carissa Wooley 13th (363.35).  

400 Free Relay – The relay team of Emma Bliss, Tina Winter, Kelly Peasley and Rebecca Farber placed third in a time of 3:28.93.
