ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers advance to the Midwest Regional Championship with a 5-0 win over Indianapolis in Saturday's (Nov. 20) semifinal at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers erupted for four first-half goals to bury the Greyhounds early and improve to 20-1-2 on the season.
 
The Lakers were on the front foot most of the first half and struck early to set the tone. Taylor Reid drove the left channel and found Stephanie Sturgeon in front of goal for a one-timer home in the 13' to put GVSU in front. Less than 10 minutes later, Caitie Baron carried possession down the right wing and lofted a ball towards the back post that was able to bend past the keeper and into the far side netting to double the advantage.
 
Baron would turn provider a few minutes later, placing a perfect cross to the back post for Kennedy Bearden to head home. A foul with less than a minute left in the half set up Brooke Russell from 40 yards out and she skied one over the leaping keeper to add to the lead before break.
 
Facing into a heavy wind and protecting a large lead, the Lakers generated a few chances but weren't overly dangerous in the second half until the final minute when Greta DeLoach squeezed the defense to earn a penalty. Ryann Fetty stepped to the spot and calmly beat the keeper for her first collegiate goal to cap off the win.
