ALLENDALE, Mich. – No. 1 Grand Valley State made a furious late comeback to earn a hard-fought draw, 2-2, against No. 11 Ferris State on Sunday (Oct. 3) afternoon at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers scored twice in the final seven minutes of regulation to earn the point, moving to 9-0-1 on the season. The Lakers are back home next Friday (Oct. 8) for Senior Night against Davenport.
Ferris scored the lone tally in the first half then doubled their advantage near the hour-mark. The Lakers had several chances, including a penalty kick that drilled the post, but were held in check until late. A nice cross-box switch found
Greta DeLoach on the back side, where she was able to cut a defender and drill corner-netting in the 83' and get the Lakers back in it.
Then as the minutes were dwindling away, the Lakers earned a corner, one of 12 on the day, from the left side.
Alexa Morello put a useful service into the box where
Madie Knaggs was able to get her head on it and drive home the tying goal. DeLoach would see a shot roll just to the right of the far post with a minute left in the first overtime as the best chance for either side in the two extra periods.
The Lakers are back home to celebrate their last two senior classes on Friday against Davenport.
