No. 1 GVSU downs Parkside 6-0 Friday

Lakers close in on GLIAC title

10.29.2021

Box Score KENOSHA, Wis. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers won their sixth straight game and earned a third consecutive shutout with a 6-0 road win over the Parkside Rangers Friday (Oct. 29) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 15-0-1 and are one win, or Ferris State loss, from a 15th straight fall GLIAC regular season championship.

Greta DeLoach scored for a ninth straight game just past the half-hour mark for what would prove to be the game-winner. She is now one off the NCAA lead with 17 on the season after a loose ball caromed to her at the top of the box and DeLoach did the rest. Despite a five-shot edge at the break, that would be the only tally of the first half.

Kennedy Bearden wasted little time doubling the advantage out of half. Just two minutes into the second period, Taylor Reid rolled a ball to the top of the box for Bearden, who curled one just inside the left post to beat the keeper. After DeLoach was denied on an incredible save by Parkside's keeper, Bearden drilled a banger from 25 yards out into the upper corner to put the game beyond doubt.

Mackenzie Jones would find the back of the net in the 77' off a beautiful setup from DeLoach for her first goal of the season and second of her career, both of which coming against the Rangers. Stephanie Sturgeon and Caitie Baron also scored late to round out the offense.

The Lakers will host Northwood next Friday (Nov. 5) and could be playing to clinch a GLIAC championship, if it hasn't been decided yet, with a 7:00 PM matchup in Allendale. GVSULakers.com will provide links to live coverage and @GVSUSoccer will live Tweet the game.
