ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers continue NCAA Tournament play Sunday (Nov. 11) when they host the 4-seed Walsh Cavaliers at 1:00 PM at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers advanced to the Midwest Region semifinals with a 7-0 win over 8-seed Rockhurst while Walsh downed 5-seed No. 24 SVSU, 1-0, Friday.

Seven different Lakers scored in the win Friday, continuing the recent surge of offensive firepower and balance. GVSU has scored at least three goals in five straight matches, keeping the Lakers top-3 nationally in both scoring offense and scoring defense. Riko Sagara was not one of the seven goal-scorers Friday, but her two assists make her the first DII player in the nation to reach 20 assists this season. She's now just four away from the GVSU single-season record.

Walsh had a flurry of chances to add to their 1-0 scoreline Friday, showing the ability to make well-timed runs behind the Saginaw defense and impressive play by their own back line. The Cavaliers sit 15-4-1 on the year and are 8-1 in their last nine contests, with the only loss coming to Ohio Valley in the GMAC Tournament finals.

"This Walsh team is very good, one of the best I've seen this year in transition both ways," said GVSU head coach Jeff Hosler. "They are athletic and play with a relentless attitude."

Brianna Sanborn has led the offensive charge for the Cavs, scoring 13 goals on the year. Alisha Himes has contributed nine goals while Olivia Peters has eight. Overall, 13 different Cavaliers have found the net this season.

"We will have to play with great tempo and execution in order to create chances," Hosler said. "Our organization defensively will be key and we must find our shape quickly as they possess and have the ability to counter effectively."

The young Lakers are looking to continue their undefeated season and advance to the Midwest Region Finals next week. If they can get there, GVSU will have a chance for a tenth straight regional title, but they know the Cavaliers present a dangerous obstacle in the path to a decade of dominance.
