No. 1 Lakers cap undefeated regular season with 5-0 win over Davenport

GVSU finishes regular season unbeaten for first time since 2013

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The No. 1 Grand Valley State Lakers offense erupted for a 5-0 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win Friday night in the 2018 regular season finale at the GVSU Soccer Field. The Lakers head into the post-season 17-0-1, their first undefeated regular season since 2013, and go 9-0-0 in GLIAC play. Davenport falls to 6-9-0 on the year and 4-5-0 in the league. Ava Cook had a pair of goals and an assist while Riko Sagara had two dimes and a goal to lead the Laker attack.
Cook got the Lakers on the board early, heading home a cross from Madeline Becker in the 14' to open the scoring. Then, in the 38', a through ball from Cook set up Tara Lierman for a one-on-one with the Davenport keeper and Lierman was able to tip-toe around her for an easy finish. The Lakers would go into the locker room with a 2-0 lead at the break and would charge out of halftime with three goals in the first quarter-hour of the second half.
Cook drove home a one-timer in the 55' after Sagara played through Caitie Baron for a rocket cross to the back post. Cook leads the GLIAC in scoring with 13 goals on the year after a pair Friday. Sagara would then take matters into her own feet in the 59' with a 20-yard shot that pinged off the crossbar and into goal. Sagara would play Darline Radamaker through just two minutes later for a brilliantly curled finish into the far side netting to round out the scoring. Sagara
